About DreamCode!

What is a Hackathon?

A hackathon is a collaborative event where people work together to build or improve software, or solve other technological challenges:

  • What it is
A hackathon is a short-term, intense working event where people work together to solve a problem or create a product. The name comes from the words "hacker" and "marathon".
  • Who attends
Hackathons are attended by programmers, designers, and other professionals who work with software and hardware.
  • What they do
Participants work in groups to create a prototype or product by the end of the event.
  • Why they're held
Hackathons are a way for businesses to encourage employees to come up with creative ideas, and to find new talent. They can also help participants develop skills like communication, teamwork, and critical thinking.
  • How long they last
Hackathons can last anywhere from 24 hours to a week.
  • Other names
Hackathons are also known as hack days, hackfests, datathons, or codefests.
